1. What is a biblical prophet?

God chooses prophets, both men and women* to serve as His spokespersons. Through His prophets, God communicates messages to us, for our guidance, comfort, and instruction. All true prophets , bow in humble obedience and submission before God who called them. JTL21 2.4

A prophet is an individual chosen by God to be His messenger. His message is given, through the Holy Spirit, to the prophet, who transmits the message to the people. God reveals His heart, plans for our future, and unfailing love through His prophets. Even God’s precious gift, the Bible, is a product of the gift of prophecy. JTL21 2.5

God is the Author of the Holy Bible and all its inspirational truths originate with Him. Through visions and dreams, the Holy Spirit illuminates the thoughts of His messengers who then convey these revelations in writing for us to read in His Word. The Bible affirms that the gift of prophecy is not limited to any specific historical period. (1 Corinthians 1:7) The Seventh-day Adventist Church believes that this prophetic gift is manifested in God’s messenger, Ellen G. White. JTL21 2.6
